Introduction to Hoe Tangata
Hoe Tangata is a portfolio within the Hapū trust dedicated to supporting and advocating for the well-being of tamariki, whānau, kaumātua, and the wider Hapū.
The portfolio is grounded in the principle of kotahitanga, emphasising unity and bringing people together. Central to this is whanaungatanga, which focuses on strengthening relationships within and across the hapū to create a connected and supportive community.
Through Hapū events, wānanga, and kaumātua gatherings, Hoe Tangata upholds a kaupapa Māori approach rooted in cultural values and practices. These gatherings provide opportunities for meaningful engagement, collective learning, and the sharing of kōrero and hītori, while strengthening connections among whānau, hau-kāinga, and the Hapū.
Hapū events encourage whakawhanaungatanga through activities such as waiata, karakia, kōrero, and whakapapa, supporting Hapū members to deepen their understanding of their tuakiri and cultural identity.
Kaumātua gatherings play a vital role by creating spaces for elders to share their wisdom, experiences, and knowledge, while also supporting intergenerational learning and recognising the needs of our kaumātua.
In times of challenge or crisis, Hoe Tangata remains committed to kotahitanga by bringing people together, providing support, and ensuring no one is left behind. Through this collective approach, the portfolio strengthens identity, resilience, and shared purpose, contributing to the holistic well-being of whānau, hau-kāinga, and the Hapū.
